Sing-Along: Count Your Blessings
I f you have read my eBook “365 Days to Glorious Victory” earlier, I mentioned about Gratitude and keeping a Gratitude Journal.
Today I would love to share with you my personal favourite hymn that I grew up singing – it is none other than “Count Your Blessings“.
This hymn was written by Johnson Oatman, Jr., who was born to a devout Christian family. His father was the best singer in town and little Johnson grew up wanting to make musical contributions of his own after being inspired by his father.
As Johnson was not gifted with a good voice like his father, he helped out in his family business for a while and also ministered for Methodist Episcopal churches with the hope that life held greater plans for him.
He finally uncovered his talent in writing hymns at the age of 36 and within 3 years’ time, the world was singing hundreds of his hymns.
Like Johnson, we might still be searching for our purpose in life and are hustling in this world to prove our existence. We might feel down when our life hits a rough patch thinking that ALL is lost.
However, if we start to count our blessings in life – we will start to develop the sentiments of gratitude. This is what I term as having an Abundance Mindset – to focus on the positivity so that God can bless us with more abundance in our life 🙂
By being grateful, we are empowered to:
- Choose Peace, Joy & Love Everyday
- Conquer Anxiety & Depression
- Create Lasting Resilience & Strength
- Overcome Negative Thoughts & Self-Sabotage
- Crush Barriers to Your Dreams
- Figure Out What You TRULY Want in Life
COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS (Lyrics)
Listen to the Hymn HERE:
When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings; name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done
Count your blessings, name them one by one:
Count your blessings, See what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your many blessings, See what God hath done.
Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings every doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.
When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.
So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, Angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.
